On Theme: ALL THE LIFE!

Today we join the Selesnya Conclave, and get back to nature.

People always say that life gain is not a winning strategy in EDH; commander damage, infect and combo make it not worth the effort.  I decided to kick that idea to the curb, and to just make a deck that gains a ton of life, turning it into a way to win.  This seemed like a pretty good challenge, and the Life Churchers are a great fit for the idea.

How are we gaining all this life, let me show you.

Archon of Redemption, Auriok Champion, Essence Warden, Healer of Pride, Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, Suture Priest - These guys are the backbone of repeatable life gain effects. That some of them punish your opponent, or feed off other people’s creatures, is great, and they can get really explosive depending on who you are playing.

Baneslayer Angel, Battlegrace Angel, Seraph of Dawn, Serra Ascendant, Victory's Herald, Windbrisk Raptor - These guys either have lifelink, or they give it to people, and lifelink is a great way to hurt people while helping yourself.

Conclave Phalanx, Goldnight Redeemer, Jaddi Lifestrider, Thragtusk - Drop these guys into play, and get a good deal of life if you have a decent board state.  These guys, with the exception of Thrags, love the Avenger of Zendikar in the deck.

Shattered Angel, Grazing Gladehart, Lifegift - These three give you life off land drops.  The Angel cares about your opponents, punishing those ramp decks.  Grazing loves when you crack fetches and drop lands, and Lifegift feeds you for any drop, which is really nice in multiplayer.

Angelic Chorus - Get life for every creature you drop.

Contemplation - Small life gain, but still worth it.

Cradle of Vitality - Grow your creatures for gaining life.

Leyline of Vitality - Gives your critters a toughness boost, and gives you life when they come in.

Moonlit Wake - Life for creatures dying, yup we can abuse that.

Noble Purpose - Double up on those life link shenanigans.

Noble Stand - Now you get life for blocking.

Orim's Prayer - Or when they attack you.

Righteous Cause - Or when any of them attack.

Privileged Position, Leyline of Sanctity, Leyline of Lifeforce - Protect your stuff.  If this doesn't help you keep your stuff, how about Replenish to get them all back?

Well of Lost Dreams - Draw cards for life gain.

So now you have tons of life, but how do you win?

Ajani Goldmane - Gains life, and then gives you another Serra Avatar.

Ageless Entity, Ajani's Pridemate - These two feed on our life gain, and can get huge if left
alone.

Serra Avatar - Another creature that loves a high life total.

Phyrexian Processor - Turn life into repeatable large creatures.

Now, there are some cards that are in here that are just good, so we don’t need to list them.

Here is the full list so you can check them out.

Creature (29)

Land (41)

Planeswalker (1)

Enchantment (21)

Artifact (5)

Sorcery (3)
1x Divine Congregation
1x
Heroes Remembered
1x
Replenish
There you go, life gain and using it to win. Now the deck is a bit more expensive then some I have done in the past, dat Cradle and Doubling Season have a way of doing that.  Did you like the deck?  Have some cards I should have put in?  Hate it, and think I am dumb for building it? Leave me a comment, or shoot me a twitter message.

As always, if you got any ideas for the deck, or any other strange themes you would like to see built, shoot me an email at jmfelber@gmail.com, or hit my twitter @RealFelber.  I am also on the Salvation boards as HatterofMad all the time, and if you wanna check out my experiment in MTG Trading check out The One Red Mountain Project, it is starting to get exciting up to over 40 bucks from trading starting with a single foil mountain.

  1. No Felidar Sovereign or Test of Endurance? Understandable if you're not a fan of alternate win conditions, but they fit the life theme well enough that it seems appropriate to include them or at least provide reason not to.

Another great card to add is True Conviction. The new Trostani is probably a good inclusion, although you have fewer tokens than needed to fully exploit her, but avatars would certainly be worth it.
