On Theme: Tribal All Stars

One of the easiest and most prolific theme decks are Tribal Decks. Every format of magic has seen some form of Tribal decks, from merfolk to zombies. These decks are fun and fairly easy to build plus they are usually very synergistic. Now in the future we might explore certain tribes, today we are going to look at all star cards in any tribal deck, as well as some that specific tribe related cards that are part of a cycle.

On Theme: There's No Place Like Home

This week we are going to talk about a project that I have been working on for a while. The idea started at Gencon a year ago when I heard someone talking about a theme deck based on farming. This got me thinking about other themes, things based on non-game mechanics, and being from  the great midwest state of Kansas there is really only one thing that comes to mind.

On Theme - One Drops

There are two tenets of deck building when dealing with Commander that are fairly important to the format. The first is limitation - it is why the color identity was created. And the other is playing big fun splashy spells that you couldn’t in other formats. Building on a theme is one way of increasing the limitations, but today’s theme goes against that second tenet. Today's theme is limiting you card choice by playing only spells with the same converted mana cost. The deck I built is based around 1 drops, about the least likely card to play with in commander.

On Theme: Silly Hats

I have a confession to make to the magic community, I love silly or even stupid themes for decks. It is really the reason I still play this game. And Commander has given me the perfect arena to just throw silly at the wall and see what sticks. My favorite part of Commander as a format is the casual nature and the expansive card pool that makes it so easy to find interesting things to do.
